Simon Knight Architects have submitted a planning application for 4 new build houses in St Albans. The proposal ensures that it sits beneath the neighbouring buildings in regards to height and mediates the change in height by expressing a contrasting material on the second floor. This ties in with the 2 storey scale that the adjacent properties also have.
The site layout has also carefully considered the context and the buildings stagger in plan to mediate between the two neighbouring properties. This avoids any overbearing or overlooking issues. It also has the added benefit of providing similar size rear gardens to each house as they work with the diagonal rear boundary line.
