Completed LETI Exemplar Retrofit Project in St Albans
This is an exciting LETI exemplar retrofit project we have completed in St Albans. This 1950’s semi-detached house has been transformed from a damp, uninsulated and cramped home into a comfortable, super insulated and airtight, low energy, family dwelling. The house was completely gutted to the bare brick and then refurbished to passive principles, with external insulation, air source heat pump, MVHR and lots of airtight tape and membranes! The airtightness achieved is an impressive 1.0 ACH (air changes per hour).
A single storey rear extension, loft conversion with dormer window and front porch has provided an additional master bedroom suite and new open plan living, kitchen, dining space. The extension is timber framed and clad in larch timber. The use of steel and concrete was minimised wherever possible to enhance the sustainable credentials of the property.
