Who are we?

Simon Knight Architects are an RIBA Chartered Practice established in the heart of historic St. Albans. We offer the full architectural service along with Passive House consultancy and are here to help guide clients through any project from start to finish. We work in a range of sectors and at different scales but treat every project with the same level of care and attention.

We are passionate about high quality contemporary design and approach every project with a fresh perspective; seeking to fulfil the design brief, whilst being sensitive to the context and our environment. Our designs are contemporary in nature but often inspired by the traditional vernacular forms and materials we find at our sites.

Testimonials

Simon Knight and his team of architects have been outstanding from start to finish - Their professionalism and attention to detail has been second to none - Always on hand to respond to any queries or issues- I would recommend them on every level - They made the whole experience effortless. I would highly recommend Simon Knight Architects without hesitation - Their expertise and guidance was constant throughout the whole project - They are undoubtedly the best architect's in St Albans.
We could not recommend Simon and his team more highly. Over the course of some 18 to 24 months, he understood our initial ideas for a side extension linking the existing house to the garage and in the process creating an addiitonal utility room - the designs were perfect - he led us through the stages to gain planning permisison - the recommendations to potential builders were excellent - and he kept in regular contact throughout as the project progressed. The end result was exactly what we wanted. Two very happy clients! Great communication throughout!! Simon and his team are absolutely first class !!!
We worked with Simon, Kayah and the team on a double story L shape extension, and full refurbishment of our late 1960s property. We met a few architects to brief in our initial ideas and immediately felt at ease with Simon, and loved the ideas and architectural details we would never have considered. Work included brief / concept, technical design, tendering & overseeing the build on site. The team were very patient with us as we went through these phases, given this was our first project like this and the various changes which were made throughout the project. Throughout the process we used an SE and a builder, with whom Simon & team had not worked with previously, but they all worked together incredibly well. Outside of the visuals, and practical details, the team also offered invaluable advice and guidance on area such as shading / solar gain (we have large sliding doors on a S facing garden) to incorporate into the build, MVHR / ventilation, and heating (heat pump versus gas boiler). As with any project like this, there were a few unforeseen areas in the build, however Simon, Kayah and team were always on hand to speak with our builder and ourselves to quickly resolve these. Our home is now finished and better than we could ever have imagined. Our friends and family always comment on some of the particular details Simon’s team came up with (such as dark timber cladding, and exposed ceiling rafters), and we often are amazed this is our home. Our project finished on budget and 1.5 months ahead of schedule. Thoroughly recommended.
Simon is a great architect. Young, creative, and inventive. Working with him is a pleasure, always good communication, always available to meet or talk. We worked together as a team and all were very professional. Their designs are delightful. the project we have done together went beyond the expectations of a client. I recommend Simon for all types of projects.
Simon gave us some excellent advice when developing our ideas with regards to our house renovation; he communicated well with us along each step of the way, from initial ideas through to planning consent & facilitated informed discussions to help us achieve exactly what we were wanting. He was easily contactable when we had questions & always understood our concerns after mentioning an issue once. He successfully made the application for planning permission as well as estate management within the conservation zone. He remained easily contactable when 1 or 2 questions arose during the building project & would be very pleased to recommend him & his team to others undertaking a similar renovation project such as ours.
